When was the last time you experienced a “But God” moment?

Numerous pastors and spiritual leaders (and friends of PastorServe) are in the midst of profound brokenness.  Unresolved conflict, financial trials, unforeseen health challenges, marriage difficulties, spiritual emptiness, workplace stress and the fear of little to no hope for change all contribute to a cloud of hopelessness hanging over one’s life.  Many pastors – and maybe you – are desperately in need of a ‘But God’ moment.

‘But God’ moments arrive in those seasons in life when everything seems to be against us.  These times are recognized by the words: there is no way the marriage can be saved, the conflict simply can’t be resolved, the prognoses gives zero hope, the church will never recover, his ministry is over.  In these times, only God can reverse the situation.  In the midst of indescribable fear, but God…

The scriptures are filled with stories of “But God” moments.

Noah was convinced he would die on the ark.  Yet, in Genesis 8 we read,

“But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and the livestock that were with him in the ark, and he sent a wind over the earth, and the waters receded.”

 

Joseph is sold into slavery by his brothers and essentially left for dead.  When they learn he is not only alive, but he now leads Egypt, they assume they will be put to death.  But, Genesis 50:20 recounts the words of Joseph to his brothers.

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

 

In Psalm 73:26 we read,

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

 

If you are a follower of the Lord Jesus, you have personally experienced a ‘But God’ moment.  Romans 5:8 addresses every believer by stating,

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

 

Likewise, Ephesians 2:4-5 tells believers,

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.”

 

There are countless pastors in the depths of an apparent unresolvable crisis in desperate need of a ‘But God’ moment.  Would you please join with us in praying for pastors (specifically pray for your pastor) to experience a ‘But God’ moment in their life this week?  Ask the Lord to bring hope for change where your pastor may have lost all hope.
