The Power of Team
As a child, I was addicted to playing sports. I was drawn to football, basketball and baseball. I loved competing alongside teammates. I found my greatest joy in working with others to collectively achieve a synergistic success. I loved training, practicing, competing and, at times, celebrating with friends.
Honestly, not much has changed. I am incredibly grateful that the Lord has allowed me to serve on a team at PastorServe. In the truest sense of the word, we are a team. At PastorServe, we daily work alongside one another to strengthen the church by serving pastors. This is not just a mission statement. It is the daily reality of PastorServe.
The power of team is all over scripture. Passages like Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Proverbs 27:17 and I Corinthians 12:12-13 remind us of the benefits of serving together. Proverbs 11:14 tells us, “Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.” At PastorServe, we are blessed with an abundance of counselors. There is safety in processing coaching difficulties, consulting challenges and crisis struggles together as a team. Each team member brings their own personal background, experience and unique perspective to every discussion. Every Monday morning PastorServe begins with an Executive Team Zoom call that includes each of the Regional Directors. On that weekly call is more than 300 years of collective pastoral ministry wisdom!
Recently, PastorServe was asked to serve a church experiencing a number of significant challenges. A team of five PastorServe staff (three men and two women) committed to walking alongside the church. Part of our responsibility was to conduct an assessment of the church and create a report detailing strengths, weaknesses and recommendations. Following our initial assessment, we dug into creating the report, which is basically the laying forth of a road map for the church to follow over the next twelve months that will, prayerfully, result in increased health. And this is where the team was vital.
I can’t envision myself singularly creating a report apart from the PastorServe team. There was so much I would have missed! In every step, each of the five team members brought unique insight and made significant contributions. We spent countless hours on Zoom (a significant challenge as the team resided in four time zones!) walking through every word of our report. There were times of passionate discussion when one staff member would make the case for a particular recommendation or a particular wording. If any of the five had been absent, the report would have been less. Thank God for TEAM!
Thank you for being a part of our team. We are immensely grateful for your commitment to walk alongside as a ministry partner. Thank you for being a part of the PastorServe’s vision That No pastor would Walk Alone. We could not do the work the Lord has called us to do apart from you, and apart from one another.
